THE NEW ZEALAND GEOPHYSICS PRIZE
RULES

1. The award shall be known as The New Zealand Geophysics Prize.

2. The prize shall be awarded by the Council of the New Zealand Geophysical Society (Inc.) to the author or co-authors of the most meritorious publication in the field of Geophysics.

3. The prize will normally be awarded annually, but no award shall be made if, in the opinion of the Council, no suitable contribution has been published.

4. To be eligible for the prize a publication must meet the following conditions:
(a) The publication shall describe research in the field of Geophysics which has been
either carried out in New Zealand,
or carried out principally by a New Zealander, temporarily overseas,
or pertains to the New Zealand region.
(b) The publication must have been published in the current or previous two calendar years.

5. Any publication that is considered to be of particular merit may be submitted for consideration by sending three copies to the Secretary of the New Zealand Geophysical Society (Inc.) by June 1 each year. In the case of papers by more than one author, the prize will normally be divided equally between the principle author and those co-authors who have made a significant contribution to the work described.

6. Each year, the Council of the Society shall appoint a prize committee of three members (not necessarily members of the Society) and forward to them copies of the papers submitted. The prize committee shall, after consideration of those papers submitted to them and any others they think worthy, recommend to the Council of the Society which publication merits the prize. The members of the prize committee shall not themselves be eligible to receive the prize. The Council may at any time replace a resigning member of the prize committee.

7. The prize shall include suitably inscribed books.

8. The prize shall, if possible, be presented at the Annual General Meeting of the Society
